After already announcing that the all-new 2014 Transit would offer its award-winning 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, Ford recently introduced yet another high-efficiency, high-power engine for the Euro-style full-size van: A 3.2-liter, inline five-cylinder Power Stroke diesel engine. Filled with the latest Ford powertrain technology, the all-new 2013 Fusion Hybrid has now been certified by the EPA to achieve 47 mpg city/47 mpg highway/47 mpg combined. Those are the highest fuel-economy marks of any mid-size sedan in America, trouncing rivals like the Toyota Camry hybrid by 4 mpg/8 mpg/6 mpg and blowing away the Hyundai Sonata hybrid by 12 mpg/7 mpg/10 mpg.

Even though Ford’s advanced EcoBoost technology allows smaller engines to deliver the same kind of power as their bigger brethren—but with better fuel efficiency—some folks may have been surprised to learn the Blue Oval would outfit some of its next-gen products with a three-cylinder powerplant—but probably not as surprised as companies like Ferrari or Lamborghini . After all, a specially designed, street-legal Formula Ford racer, holstering a 1.0-liter EcoBoost I3 engine, just blistered its way through the famed Nurburgring racecourse in just 7:22, besting supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador (powered by a 700-hp V12) and Ferrari Enzo (packing a V12 worth 660 hp). In fact, the three-cylinder Ford set the 11 th fastest time ever on the Nordschleife circuit.

It’s another fuel-efficiency benchmark for the Blue Oval: When the 2013 Ford Taurus takes to the street with its new 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, it will offer the highest EPA mileage rating of any car in its class: 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway/26 mpg combined. And not only will the Taurus top rivals like the Hyundai Azera, Chrysler 300 and (non-hybrid) Toyota Avalon in terms of fuel-economy, it also will supply drivers with 240 hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque for responsive performance.

Having already hauled away the Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award, the 2012 Ford F-150 has now been named the industry’s top half-ton pickup by Truckin’—the “World’s Leading Trucking Publication.” And this was no mere popularity contest, as the F-150 SuperCrew won the title in hard-fought comparison testing against the competition. “Ford stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam with the EcoBoost F-150 FX2,” said Maxwell Matthewson, feature editor for Truckin’. “They gave the consumer everything they wanted in one package: impeccable styling, remarkable performance, and gas mileage that doesn’t punch you in the gut at the fuel pump.” That’s because for this particular faceoff, Ford also gave the truck the full FX2 appearance and luxury treatment, with a powerful yet efficient EcoBoost V6 engine

Credit goes to those previously mentioned updates as well as features like a heated steering wheel and multi-contour front seats with Ford’s Active Motion system.
