High Energi: Plug-in Ford C-Max and Fusion Post Record Sales in August

August marked the Blue Oval’s best month yet for electrified-vehicle sales, as the company’s hybrids, plug-in hybrids and full-on EVs combined for 8,292 deliveries last month. Not that that should be much of a surprise: Ford’s greenest entries have now set sales records in 11 months in a row, capped off in August when the Ford C-Max Energi and Ford Fusion Energi each had their highest monthly sales totals since they first hit the market earlier this year

Fusion Energi Reaches 100 MPGe—and Keeps on Going

With the 2014 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid in dealerships—and certified by the EPA to achieve 108 MPGe city/92 MPGe highway/100 MPGe combined in its all-electric mode—the Blue Oval closed out 2012 by setting a new quarterly record for hybrid sales. C-MAX Energi Posts Maximum Electric-Only Top Speed

After already trumping the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid in terms of better fuel efficiency, a longer electric-only driving range, more cabin space and a lower MSRP, the Ford C-MAX Energi has now stuck another fork into its “rival”: The Blue Oval recently confirmed that its plug-in hybrid utility vehicle also will have a higher top speed than the Toyota when both are in an all-electric driving mode. The C-MAX Energi will be capable of reaching 85 mph driven solely by its electric motor, while the Prius Plug-in peters out at 65 mph. As a result, the Ford will have no problem keeping up with highway traffic under electric power

The Ford C-MAX Energi will be able to travel more than 20 miles on electricity alone—and some 550 miles overall—when it arrives in dealerships later this year with bar-raising performance for a mass-market plug-in hybrid. Compared to the Toyota Prius Plug-in, for example, the C-MAX Energi will offer almost double the all-electric driving range, as well as a slight advantage in total travel capabilities and the exact same MPGe rating for combined all-electric “fuel” efficiency.
